Spectrul etiologic al hemoragiei digestive superioare la cirotici

  • Subiect: Gastroesophageal variceal hemorrhage, is a major complication of portal hypertension resulting from cirrhosis. Variceal hemorrhage occurs in 25 to 35 percent of patients with cirrhosis and accounts for 80 to 90 percent of bleeding episodes in these patients. In this study we retrospectively studied the prevalence and the etiology of superior gastro-intestinal tract bleeding (UGB) on patients with cirrhosis. We also evaluate the age, severity and manifestation forms of UGB (hematemesis, melaena or both). We studied a number of 312 patients with cirrhosis, among them in 53 cases we detect UBG. The prevalence of UBG was higher between 50-60 years of age, in males and in patients with rural provenience. The more frequent manifestation form of UGB was melaena or melaena with hematemesis. The etiology of cirrhosis was in over 50% toxic (ethanol) and the cause of bleeding in over 50% were the esophageal varices and 30% diffuse gastric bleeding.
