Retinocoroidita toxoplasmozică

  • Subiect: Ocular toxoplasmosis is an intraocular inflammation due to infection with the parasite Toxoplasma gondii. The infection with this obligate intracellular parasite is the most common posterior uveitis in immunocompetents individuals. Usually consists in a self-limited retinochoroiditis, but the macula can be frequently involved and visual acuity may be considerably compromised. In this retrospective study, we examined 300 patients with toxoplasmosis (complete ophthalmologic examination: visual acuity, applanation tonometry, slit-lamp inspection, dilated ophthalmoscopy, automated perimetry) and we evaluated the prevalence and severity of permanent visual impairment represented in the visual field and in visual acuity in patients with inactive ocular toxoplasmosis.
