Boala hepatica alcool indusă (BHA) – spectru clinic şi aspecte epidemiologice

  • Subiect: Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is an extremely common disease with significant morbidity and mortality. The reason why only a small proportion of heavy drinkers progress to advanced liver disease is still under debate. The article describes the epidemiology of ALD and the various clinical forms, with particular emphasis on the factors that account for the development of these diseases. Alcoholics may progress from fatty liver (present in over 90% of heavy drinkers), to alcoholic hepatitis and liver cirrhosis (developed in 15% of heavy drinkers), generating an increased overall mortality. Moreover, chronic alcohol consumption and alcoholic liver cirrhosis are associated with an increased risk of developing hepatocellular carcinoma.
