Evoluţia demografică în Rîmnicu Vîlcea din cele mai vechi timpuri pănă în prezent

  • Subiect: The article begins with a description of the geographical factors that influenced the socio-economic, demographic and implicitly, of Râmnicu Vâlcea from ancient times to today. From the Neolithic period, ancient, medieval and modern period, Râmnicu Vâlcea city develops under the influence of different factors from the natural ones to invasions, until the epidemic periods of natural disasters and periods of development and economic progress. The growth of the population in Râmnicu Vâlcea is a long process, a process characterized by a long period of stagnation in the Neolithic period to antiquity, and then by a very slow growth from antiquity to the late Middle Ages. If for the period between the Neolithic and Middle Ages the demography is influenced mainly by wars, natural disasters and plagues, from medieval middle, an important role in the demographic evolution of Râmnicu Vâlcea begin to have the economic and cultural development and the development of transport routes. If the first part of the article presents especially the negative factors such as wars and plagues that influenced the demographic trends, the second part of the article describes the particular industries and economic activities that have led to a population growth and which then turned Râmnicu Vâlcea from a small town into a real city with industrial ambitions. The documentary sources used make reference in particular to local articles and materials than to others of a general nature. Important among these sources are the census statistics that have been made locally over time. The article ends with a small possibilities analysis of the development of the city on an average and long term and from a European perspective too. This article does not want to be a thorough analysis of all the factors that influenced the demography over time and especially to fix a few important points in time in the demographic evolution of Râmnicu Vâlcea.
