Subiect: In the course of the salvage excavations in the Roman camp from Gherla, a red jasper gem with the image of Hermes on it was discovered in 1982. Its dimensions are: the large diameter is 11.3 mm, the short diameter is 9.5 mm, the thickness is 3.1 mm. This piece is roughly elaborated and it proceeds from a local workshop (possibly Porolissum). No evidence would allow us to presume the existence of a stone engraving workshop in Gherla. This gem has been found in a tower of porta decumana and its existence is traced back to the middle of the 3rd century AD.
