Materiale arheologice aparţinând culturii Cruceni-Belegis

  • Subiect: The three objects presented in this article belonged to a private collection donated to the Banat Museum from Timişoara. They were found on the bank of the river Timiş next to the village Giroc - the region Timiş (this settlement being 5 km south of Timişoara). In this place there is a very important settlement belonging to Cruceni-Belegiş culture. It's very possible that these objects belonged to the above mentioned location. The first piece is a fragment from a bracelet of a Regelsbrunn type which has a good analogy in a cemetery of a Cruceni-Belegiş type, that of Ghilad - Timiş region discovered in the last century. On the basis of its characteristics as well as through the whole metallurgy of the communities of the Cruceni-Belegiş type, this piece is dated somewhere in the period MDII after B. Hänsel. The second piece is a fragment from a clay pattern for moulding bronze sickle. Because of its fragmentary character it may be hardly included in a special type. The medium rough level as well as the top of the sickle can be found at the sickles from Bühl, Ackenbach, Mezöbereny, Otomani. From chronological point of view it is very difficult to be included probably it is dated as the bracelet of Regelsbrunn type. The last piece discovered at Giroc is a clay pattern for moulding bronze pendants. This kind of piece is well known in the region beginning with the Kisapostag and Vatya cultures, being used till the early Hallstatt period. They are known also in the area of Cruceni-Belegiş culture. As for its dating, it may be done only together with other bronze pieces which can be dated more accurately. Maybe it belongs to MDII period. The number of the discoveries to Cruceni-Belegiş culture is numerous enough in Romanian Banat. Unfortunately they are unpublished lying without being valued in the collections of the Banat museums. We hope that we'll be able to publish these materials, at last. The lack has brought about to theories that today can't be trustworthy. The origin of Cruceni-Belegiş culture should not be searched in Vatina culture, but as it was noticed a few years ago in the so called Gumtransdorf-Drassburg type. As a starting point of thc Cruceni-Belegiş culture, fully shaped, we consider the period MDII. It has remained to demonstrate if the influence of tumular culture and the Szeremle type is to be found in the Cruceni-Belegiş culture. So far we don't know in the Rornanian Banat such discoveries. We don't have to ignore the presumption that these regions had been occupied by the bearers of the Litzenkeramic type before the coming of the tumulars.
