  • Subiect: OLD ROUMANIAN PRINTS OF THE BAIA MARE REGION RECENTLY ACQUIREO FOR THE COLLECTIONS OF TIIE LIBRAR Y OF THE ACADEMY OF THE ROMANIAN S.R. - CLUJ-NAPOCA BRANCH The paper describes 15 old Rumanian books recently acquired for the special collections of the Library of the Academy of the R.S.R. - Cluj-Napoca Branch, and which are prevenient from the Baia Mare district, ancient cradle of Romanian culture in Maramureş Country. Information offered by the holographic inscriptions found on the copies described here show that the books belonged to the Romanian intelligentsia and outstanding figures of the Romanian culture. Thus, on the book CRV 1010, Carte Romanească de învăţătură by Varlaam (laşi, 1643), mention is made of its having been in the possession of Vasile, Voivode of Moldavia (maybe Vasile Lupu, Prince of Moldavia, patron of the work Pravila de la laşi, 1646?); on the book CRV 1013, the Bible of Blaj (1795) the note was found „Auctor libri hujus Demetrius Cichindea”: he was the founder of the Roumanian school at Arad. On the same copy there is a signature of Ştefan Paharnicul, a Walachian by origin, and another signature of the Transylvanian Buteanu, a Roumanian intellectual. from the Bistriţa area, who in spite of hostile circumstances preserved not only his name but also the ideals of his ancestors. For these another Buteanu, this time Ion, suffered martyrdom at Iosaş-Criş in 1849. The facts prove that a part of these books printed in Walachia (at Snagov, Rîmnic and Bucharest) in the times of Antim Ivireanul and Constantin Brîncoveanu, and in Moldavia (at laşi) in the days of Varlaam and Vasile Lupu were brought to the Baia Mare region by· peasants and the intelligentsia of the villages, an eloquent proof of the uninterrupted relationships between the people of Maramureş and those on the other side of the Carpathians. It is another proof of the continuity of the Roumanian people in the Carpatho-Danubian space in which Romanian spirituality and the Daco-Romanian inprint of the Roumanian humanism have developed during the 2050 years of existence.
