  • Subiect: The Hurezi Monastery – symbol of the sacrifice for faith and nation Our thought headed to the holy martyr voivode Constantin Brâncoveanu, especially this year, because the day of 15 August, when our Holy Church celebrates the Assumption of the Holy Virgin, were fulfilled 300 years from his martyrdom, being cut by the Turks at Constantinople together with his four boys and with the faithful counsellor Ianache the treasurer, brother of Lady Mary. Being a temperate ruler, worthy and cautious householder, generous and forgiving, kind and compassionate father, Prince Constantin Brâncoveanu is one of the brightest faces of our Romanian and Christian past. He accepted with bitterness, without doubt, the sacrifice, in an ethical vision of the political activity, conceived for community’s service, for its survival and freedom, and also for the maintenance of its fundamental values, not as a way of enrichment and personal promotion.
