Consiliul Dirigent şi problematica şcolară din Transilvania (decembrie 1918-aprilie 1920)

  • Subiect: The Ruling Council and school issues from Transylvania (december 1918-april 1920) Until 1st of December 1918 in Transylvania and in other Romanian provinces from the old Austro-Hungarian Empire annexed to the Old Kingdom, the education of Romanians had been realized through an education system sustained on bases almost totally confessional, the state supporting only the schools with teaching in Hungarian. After the Great Union it was imposing not only the change in depth of this situation, but also the harmonization with the education system from the other side of the Carpathians.Here it interfered the determinant role of the Ruling Council, the managing executive forum of Transylvania and the other old Austro-Hungarian provinces until April 1920 which has been permanently preoccupied, although having great difficulties, to bring major changes in this matter at all the education levels – elementary, secondary (gymnasium, secondary, professional) and university –, eventually leading to the creation of state schools in which the teaching process up to university level to be realized in Romanian, but with the compliance of minority rights to benefit of education with teaching in mother tongue. The purpose of this article is that of exemplifying the most important decisions and decrees emitted by the Ruling council with the scope of reorganizing the educational system from this area.
