Arhiva generală a Ţării Româneşti

  • Subiect: The article shows that beginning with the 17th century the records concerning the main interests of the country as well as some valuable private papers were preserved at the Wallachian Metropolitan Church where there were better conservation and security conditions. The oldest information of this fact goes back to the early of 1652 and was signaled by the late historian and archivist Aurelian Sacerdoţeanu who called these archives "general archives". They were the nucleus of the later State Archives and rendered an important service to the country by providing the State organs with the necessary records for defending the main interests and by protecting against destruction the precious testimonies of the historical past.
