Din istoricul schitului Bascovele, judeţul Argeş

  • Subiect: From the History of Bascovele Convent, Argeş County The Bascovele Convent from the village Ursoaia, Bascovele Parish, Argeş County, which became an A Category historical monument, is one of the many cult places that have a bitter fate since the foundation. It was a foundation of the Grand Equerry Şerban II Cantacuzino, in 1695, the church of the Bascovele Convent was strongly affected by the earthquakes from 1802 and 1838 so that in 1843, the abbess Platonida Căzăneasca was forced to remake it from the foundation. She was supported by the Greek Ştefu Nicolau and his wife, Paraschiva, from Piteşti. Although the convent had not a large land, it eventually lost its few properties – the estates Vaţa (today Vedea Parish, Argeş County) and Şitişeasca (today Balaci Parish, Teleorman County) and the vineyards Muscel from Valea Popii and Valea Bădeştilor, all of them in the Teleorman County – as a consequence of the secularization from 1863. After this moment, the community of the place strongly fought with the land agent of Cotmeana estate, who invaded the 39 acres the convent owned. The land was regained in 1876, but in 1883 the convent was closed. It was refunded on the 21st of February 1932, as a consequence of the testament of the priest I. Bălăşescu, who donated 6 ha of land for the nuns.
