  • Subiect: EVOLUTIONARY TRENDS IN THE FISH FAUNA OF RIVERS IN ROUMANIA A modification of the zonal distribution of fish species is taking place in Roumania since some three decenies : fishes inhabiting the lower and middle reach of rivers extended and are extending their ranges stream upwards, the most striking examples being Chondrostoma nasus and Vimba vimba, while a few species from the upper reach of rivers (Thymallus thymallus, Cottus gobio) are retiring upstreams from places which they inhabited formerly. If this trend will continue, the grayling - (Th. thymallus) - zone of the rivers may disappear and the Chondrostoma nasus - zone will come in direct contact with the brown-trout zone.
