Apele subterane din culoarul Streiului

  • Subiect: The ground waters of the Strei river corridor soak pre-Quaternary and Quaternary formations. The thick insertions of sands and loosely cemented grit stones of Tortonian, Buglovian and Sarmatian formations give the possibility of making up aquifers and water-bearing strata with artesian and subartesian level, but also with free level in the inter-river zones. The Quaternary deposits (gravels, sands) composing the river meadow and the terraces contain ground waters with free level. The flows pumped from these formations are higher in the Southern half of the corridor where the alluviums are coarser. The captive waters in the pre-Quaternary formations contain chlorides and sulphides, while those in the Quaternary formations prevailingly contain bicarbonates. Thermomineral (dicarbonate-calcium-magnesium) springs appear at Călan in connection with the tectonic accidents influencing both the sedimentary strata and the crystalline base.
