Solomon (Simion) Haliţă şi publicistica bârlădeană

  • Subiect: Solomon Haliţă and the journalism of Bârlad Solomon Haliţă proved an illustrious member of a generation aspiring to transform education according to the principle of culture and civilization instruments. Solomon Haliţă was born in 1859 at Sângeorz, Bistriţa-Năsăud county, where he attended the local middle school, after which he studied history, philosophy and pedagogy in Vienna. In 1866 he moved to Bârlad where he taught pedagogy at Şcoala Normală (Teachers Teaching School) for ten years. In 1887 he founded the George Lazăr magazine, with a pedagogy theme, among the first ones in the country; it also contained articles of literature, science, folklore and reviewing. From 1896 he transferred to Şcoala Normală in Galaţi and from 1905 in Iaşi. As an inspector for elementary schools under the Ministry of Cults and Public Education, he brought a valuable contribution to the modernization of the education and the edification of new schools in the rural area. Solomon Haliţă supported the national unity and the union of the occupied territories with Romania. He held the function of prefect of Vaslui (1918), Iaşi (1919-1922) and Bistriţa (1922-1924). Solomon Haliţă died in 1926.
