1359 – An al creării sau al transmutării Mitropoliei Ungrovlahiei?

  • Subiect: 1359 - creation or transfer year of the Orthodox Metropolitanate for Wallachia Since the 19th century it was said that it was told that the Metropolitanate of Wallachia led by Hiacinth was created in 1359, using the letter of the Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate from May 1359 to the Romanian Wallachian Nicolae Alexandru (1352-1364). Documents from the registers of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Constantinople allow redating of the Metropolitanate. In 1285, a Theodor or Theodosius bearer of the title and rank of metropolitan of Vicina signed in as a member of the synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. A little later, in 1304, Metropolitan Luke of Vicina was mentioned as the hierarchy of the Orthodox believers in the river Istros (the Danube). Finally, the Valachia leaders, the Basarab family princes, asked for a proper hierarchy to be appointed to them by the Ecumenical Patriarchate. This new situation caused the translation of the Metropolitan's seat from the fallen Danube port Vicina into the prosperous princely residence at Curtea de Argeş.
