Turnul Alb. Monument reprezentativ al Braşovului medieval. Cercetările arheologice din anul 2003

  • Subiect: White Tower. Representative monument of medieval Braşov. Archaeological research since 2003 The present study exploits the archaeological research carried out in June-August 2003 at one of the most significant monuments of medieval Brasov, the White Tower. The research had a salvage character, being imposed and preceding the preparation of the project of restoration of the monument, part of the lar err work of multidisciplinary research, cleaning and restoration, cultural and tourist exploitation of the fortifications of Brasov, located in the area of Mount Tâmpa and of War the Hill. The objectives pursued were multiple, consisting of establishing the way the tower was built, establishing with certainty the number of levels of the tower, certifying the existence or not based on rooms, revealing the level of medieval period, providing data related to the entrance to the tower, the system of cover and access to the mouths of shooting and throwing. Two sections (S1 and S2) were drawn up to meet the objectives, keeping a stratigraphic witness. The archaeological material discovered was poor, consisting of debris, construction materials and generally rubbish deposited after the tower was abandoned as a military objective.
