historiography, Nicolae Bălcescu was one of the first assiduous researchers of the records among the Romanian historians. He carried out investigations at the State Archives, the archives of some monasteries and several private records, both in the country and abroad. He was one of the first Romanian records editors. He employed those resources for achieving synthesis works and supporting the revolutionary cause in 1848, respectively.
